From Staff And Wire Reports

Injured The University of Texas football trainer said his staff could not clear quarterback Colt McCoy to return to the BCS championship game after he injured his right throwing shoulder in the Longhorns’ 37-21 loss to Alabama on Thursday. Trainer Kenny Boyd said in a statement released by the school on Saturday that McCoy “wanted to go back in the game … (but) we couldn’t clear him to do that.” McCoy was hurt on Texas’ fifth play on offense and the NCAA career leader in victories (45) as a starting quarterback didn’t take another snap in his final game. Freshman Garrett Gilbert played the rest of the game. “Colt sustained a nerve injury involving his right shoulder that prevented him from returning to the game. The injury caused numbness and weakness in his arm that prevented him from throwing with the strength or accuracy he needed,” Boyd said. “He wanted to go back into the game but with the weakness he was having in the shoulder, we couldn’t clear him to do that.”

Sold Former NFL and Miami Hurricanes star quarterback Bernie Kosar will have his assets sold off in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Court papers show that U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Raymond B. Ray changed Kosar’s bankruptcy case to a liquidation, or Chapter 7. Kosar, 46, listed $9.2 million in assets and $18.9 million in debt in court documents filed Sept. 23. He had filed for bankrupt- cy in June. His initial filing said he owed $1.5 million to the Cleveland Browns, the team he played for from 1985 to 1993. He also owed $3 million to his ex-wife and more than $9 million to a bank for bad real estate deals. Kosar divorced in 2007 and last year saw his steakhouse go out of business.

Out Detroit starters Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince did not play in the second half for the Pistons against the Philadelphia 76ers because of injuries. Stuckey sat out the second half with a sore right knee and Prince was out with a sore left knee.

Vince Carter says he has a “mild separation” in his left shoulder but doesn’t expect to miss much time for the Orlando Magic. Carter was out of the lineup against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night.

•Boston Bruins center Marc Savard is expected to miss three to four weeks because of a partial ligament tear in his right knee that won’t need surgery. Savard was injured in Thursday’s 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in Boston.
