Equestrian ‘Olympics’ begin Saturday
The 16-day World Equestrian Games, the sport’s version of the Olympics which will crown champions in eight different disciplines, began in Lexington, Ky., Saturday (Photo: Jockey Chris McCarron takes part in opening ceremonies.). NBC will broadcast more than eight hours of live coverage over three weekends. Over 950 athletes and thousands of horses representing 58 countries will participate in the games, which will be held at the renovated Kentucky Horse Park, the first time the event has been held outside of Europe. The state spent $75 million giving the sprawling park a makeover. Upgrades include a 6,000-seat indoor arena and a 7,500-seat outdoor stadium.
