Sidelined Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler had hip surgery, the team said Tuesday. The Selke Trophy winner is expected to make a full recovery in 10 to 12 weeks. Kesler had a career-high 41 goals and added 32 assists in 82 games with the Canucks, who lost to the Bruins in the Stanley Cup finals. In 25 playoff games, he added seven goals and 12 assists.

Withdrew Former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik withdrew from Saturday’s 10-round fight against Darryl Cunningham for unknown reasons. Pavlik was scheduled to fight at the Covelli Centre in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, with the bout to be televised nationally on Showtime.

Scheduled Fired Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl is scheduled to meet today with the Texas Legends, an NBA D-League team looking for a new coach. Pearl was fired by Tennessee in March after the school learned the coach had possibly committed another recruiting violation after his teary admission six months earlier of lying to NCAA investigators.

Punished South Carolina quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus must give up a month’s salary, nearly $14,600, as punishment for his arrest last month. Athletic director Eric Hyman announced the punishment, a day after Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier welcomed Mangus back to the team. Hyman says Mangus is on probation for the rest of his career at South Carolina. Mangus was suspended last week when police officers in Greenville, S.C., caught him urinating in the street.

Announced USA Track and Field says 400-meter runner Jeremy Wariner will miss the world championships later this month with a foot injury. Wariner had already pulled out of a meet this weekend in London.

• IndyCar officials placed drivers Mike Conway, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alex Tagliani on probation through Dec. 31 for multiple instances of initiating avoidable contact during races.

• Tour de France champion Cadel Evans will race for the BMC Racing Team through 2014. Team president Jim Ochowicz announced the contract extension.
