Canadians defeat Indians to win series 4-1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Spokane Indians pulled off a bizarre triple play and almost pulled off a win despite being held to one hit through seven innings.

Maybe it was only fitting that Saturday’s capper of a five-game Northwest League series was decided when Vancouver stole home.

Roan Salas’ steal of home in the fourth inning provided the insurance run that the Canadians would need for a 2-1 win over the Indians at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Vancouver (5-6) won the series 4-1 and dropped Spokane to 4-7.

Salas was also in the middle of the triple play that Spokane pulled after Vancouver took a 1-0 lead in the second.

Nicholas Baligod walked to lead off the second against William Lamb (1-1). Salas tripled him home and was still at third when Matt Newman flew out to center fielder Ruben Sierra with the bases loaded. Sierra threw home to Jorge Alfaro to tag out Salas, then Alfaro threw to second base to get Chris Schaeffer trying to advance.

Hanser Alberto’s infield single in the third was Spokane’s lone hit through seven innings.

The Indians came alive with three hits in the eighth, including Edwin Garcia’s RBI double, but Drew Permison came on with two outs and the bases loaded to strike out Guillermo Pimentel.
