Refuted The agent for Penguins star Sidney Crosby is refuting a Canadian television report that says the former MVP has suffered a setback in his recovery from a pair of concussions. CTV News reported Monday that Crosby suspended his training after suffering a recurrence of concussion-like symptoms and wouldn’t be ready when the Penguins open training camp next month.

Sidelined Golfer J.B. Holmes withdrew from The Barclays as he prepares to have brain surgery that will force him to miss the rest of the season. Holmes has been diagnosed with structural defects in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls balance. He has been dealing with vertigo-like symptoms since May.

Announced Rising Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic announced he will miss the U.S. Open as he recovers from hip surgery. He’ll return to the court when Canada faces Israel in a Davis Cup matchup Sept. 16-18. Raonic is ranked No. 29 and won his first ATP tournament in San Jose in February. But he injured his hip in the second round at Wimbledon and had surgery July 5 in Vail, Colo.

Suspended NASCAR has suspended Trucks Series driver Shane Sieg for violating the substance abuse policy. Sieg’s suspension was announced Monday. He’s the second driver from NASCAR’s top three national series to be suspended since the random drug testing policy was adopted in 2009.

Apologized Crew chief Jerry Baxter has apologized for pulling Steve Wallace’s hair after the Nationwide Series race in Montreal. Baxter says in a statement that he was frustrated following Saturday’s race and let his emotions get the best of him. Delayed Three-time Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Calvin Borel had his court appearance delayed until Wednesday so he can retain legal counsel in an Indiana drunken driving case. A spokeswoman for the Vanderburgh County prosecutor’s office says Borel’s driver’s license also has been suspended 180 days.
