Huskies ready to welcome Suggs back after surgery
Shortly after boarding the bus that would take the University of Washington men’s basketball team to SeaTac Airport and the start of a seven-day trip to New York City, senior guard Scott Suggs expressed excitement about the trip and all the sights the Huskies would see.
But what really makes this trip special, for Suggs anyway, is the possibility that he won’t be watching games from the bench.
After missing the first six games following foot surgery, Suggs is close to returning to action – and he cannot wait.
“It’s been a long seven, eight weeks,” Suggs said via telephone as the team bus pulled out from UW’s athletic complex early Sunday afternoon. “I’m excited just to be back out there again.”
While coach Lorenzo Romar said Monday that Suggs is “doubtful” for tonight’s game against Marquette (7-0) at Madison Square Garden, the 6-foot-5 senior could be on that floor when UW (4-2) plays Duke in New York City on Saturday.
Romar also said the Huskies miss Suggs, one of only two seniors on the roster, more than an outsider might realize.
“He’s going to run the right (offensive) sets, and he’s a guy that is going to help get people in the right place defensively,” Romar said.
