Titans, Stags post victories

Dustin Johnson (185 pounds) and Jake Laden (215 pounds) won back-to-back matches by pins to help lead University past Enumclaw 40-27 in the 3A championship dual at the East Valley Dream Duals Saturday at East Valley.

The Titans won their first four matches and the last four to beat the Hornets, despite trailing 27-21 after Enumclaw’s Kario Wallin pinned Jacob Patschkowski in 2 minutes, 30 seconds in the 160-pound division.

Matt Fry brought U-Hi to within two with a 15-2 win over Wyatt Josie before Johnson pinned Colton Malek to give the Titans the lead for good 31-27.

Laden then put the dual out of reach, pinning Colton Johnson in 3:32 to give U-Hi a 37-27 edge with one match remaining.

Taking the 2A title was Deer Park, which won six out of seven matches at one point to beat Othello 38-30 in the championship dual.

Cody Dehn started the run for the Stags at 125 pounds, earning a pin over Colton Rodriguez in 1:03. Shawn Burton closed the dual with a pin of George Rodriguez (1:28) at 285 pounds.

Also making the finals was Mead, which fell 30-26 to 4A champion Moses Lake.

The Panthers led by two after winning their 215-pound match, but gave up six points at 285 pounds, when Kabe Fluiatt of Moses Lake beat Jake Bogensberger by pin in 1:01.

The six points lifted the Chiefs to the win.
