Captive soldier promoted again

BOISE – An American soldier being held captive in the Afghan war has been promoted to the rank of sergeant, his second promotion.

A promotion certificate was presented to the parents of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl at the family’s home near Hailey this week.

Bergdahl went missing from his base in southern Afghanistan in June 2009.

While it’s unclear where the 25-year-old soldier is being held, a video released on the Internet last month shows him standing next to a senior official in the al-Qaida-linked Haqqani network in Paktika province in Afghanistan.

He was promoted to the rank of specialist in June 2010.
