Freshman point guard Shoni Schimmel directed Louisville’s young-but-poised offense with 19 points, and the Cardinals (21-12) marked their return to the NCAA tournament by beating the Commodores (20-12).

Jasmine Lister scored 13 for Vanderbilt.

Ta’Shia Phillips had 27 points and 15 rebounds, and the Musketeers (29-2) got off to a slow start on their home court before using their front-line advantage to pull away from the Jackrabbits (19-14).

Amber Harris had 16 points and 12 rebounds against South Dakota State, the three-time Summit League champs who couldn’t measure up to Xavier’s two dominant front-line players.

Philadelphia Regional

At Storrs, Conn.

Stefanie Dolson scored all 12 of her points in the first half to lead a balanced Connecticut offense, and the top-seeded Huskies (33-1) routed the Hawks (17-16).

Maya Moore, Bria Hartley and Tiffany Hayes added 12 points each for Connecticut, who started their journey toward a third consecutive national championship.

Alex Hall scored 10 points to lead Hartford, which was making its sixth trip to the NCAA tournament.

Brittany Rayburn scored 21 points for the Boilermakers (21-11), who defeated the Wildcats (21-11).

Brittany Chambers had 18 points for Kansas State.

At College Park, Md.

Alyssa Thomas scored 10 of her 16 points in the first half for the Terrapins (24-7), leading a win over the Red Flash (22-12). Brittany Lilley and Nickia Gibbs each scored 10 points for St. Francis, the Northeast Conference champions.

Georgetown guard Sugar Rodgers outscored Princeton in the first half, and the Hoyas (23-10) rolled to a win over the Tigers (24-5).

Rodgers scored 16 before halftime to help stake the Hoyas to a 34-14 lead. She sophomore finished with 26 points.

Riquna Williams scored 17 of her 28 points in the first half to help the Hurricanes (28-4) to a win over the Bulldogs (23-11).

Dominique Hudson led Gardner-Webb with 18 points and twin sister Monique had 17.

Whitney Hand scored 24 points and the Sooners (22-11) squandered much of a 19-point second-half lead before holding on to beat the Dukes (26-8).

Danielle Robinson added 19 points for Oklahoma, which is trying to make its third consecutive run to the Final Four.
