Volcanoes’ fast start buries Spokane

KEIZER, Ore. – Joe Biagini scattered four hits in five innings for his first win of the baseball season, and Salem-Keizer used three RBI singles to right field in the first inning Tuesday to topple the Spokane Indians 5-2 in Northwest League play.

Biagini (1-4) pitched five scoreless innings before running into trouble in the sixth with a single, wild pitch and walk. The Indians scored their runs on a passed ball and throwing error, but reliever Mason McVay escaped further problems with two strikeouts and a flyout.

Spokane put runners on first and second with one out in the eighth but couldn’t capitalize.

Indians starter C.J. Edwards (1-1) struck out six in four innings, walking three and allowing three earned runs.

Spokane is 6-8 in the NWL’s second half. S-K is 7-7.
