Christensen on pace to repeat

Defending champion Bob Christensen of Post Falls is tied for the lead at the Senior Men’s Amateur Public Links Championship after shooting a 2-under-par 71 on the 6,747-yard course at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls.

Christensen is tied with Seattle’s Larry Daniels heading into today’s final round.

In the Men’s Amateur tournament, 16-year-old Derek Bayley of Rathdrum has a one-shot lead after carding a 2-under 71 over a 7,174-yard layout.

Spokane’s Dylan Maine and Coeur d’Alene’s Alex Pounds are one shot off the pace going into today’s final round.

In the Women’s Amateur tournament, Sierra Bezdicek of Colbert, is tied for second place after posting a 1-under 72 over a 5,917-yard course. Bezdicek is tied with Cherokee Kim of DuPont, Wash.

Cheyenne Hickle of Eugene, Ore., is the first-round leader at 2-under 71.

Volleyball

The tournament host Idaho Vandals (2-1) posted victories over the Montana Grizzlies and Washington State Cougars in Moscow, Idaho.

Allison Baker piled up 24 kills and 13 digs, Janelle Chow had 23 digs and Ryann Carter notched 49 assists to lead the Vandals to a 28-30, 25-16, 25-18, 25-13 victory over Montana.

The Grizzlies had a paltry .080 hit percentage for the match.

The Vandals came from behind to knock off the Cougars (1-2) in the second match.

Walker had 28 kills and 14 digs to propel the Vandals to a hard-fought 25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 28-26, 15-13 victory over the Cougs.

Jaicee Harris had 27 kills and 11 digs to pace Washington State. Rachel Todorovich added 14 kills, while Camryn Irwin totaled 53 assists.

Ashley Christman had 12 kills and Alyssa Schultz chipped in with 11 kills for the Vandals.

WSU opened the day by losing three straight sets to the Pacific Tigers (2-0).

Harris led the Cougars with 11 kills and two blocks, while Todorovich added seven kills and a pair of blocks.

Jennifer Sanders, Kat Schulz and Gabby Cowden topped the Tigers with nine kills apiece.

Hannah Clancy had 16 digs and 28 assists, both match highs.

• The Gonzaga Bulldogs (1-2) failed to win a set in a pair of matches at the Northwest Challenge in Seattle.

The 14th-ranked Washington Huskies (3-0) rolled to a 25-21, 25-17, 25-20 victory in the first match of the day.

Krista Vansant paced the Huskies with a match-high 14 kills, while setters Jenni Nogueras and Katy Beals each had 17 assists.

Savannah Blinn led Gonzaga with 12 kills and a .346 attack percentage. Terran Poindexter added 11 kills, while Lauren Joseph tallied 15 assists.

In the second match, Boise State cruised to a 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 win over the Bulldogs.

Alyssa Gammel topped the Broncos (1-2) with 11 kills.

Kylie Edinger had seven kills for GU, while Kristina Lavrisha chipped in with 12 digs.

Washington won its fifth straight title in the tourney with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of Portland State (1-2).

• The Eastern Washington Eagles (0-4) remained winless on the season after suffering a pair of losses at the Wyoming Invitational in Cheyenne.

Presbyterian College (1-2) handed the Eagles their first loss with a 26-24, 25-21, 25-16 sweep.

EWU was led by the six kills of Shelby Puckett, Cora Kellerman and Kelsey Julian. Ashley Wright had 20 assists.

The host Wyoming Cowgirls breezed to a 25-17, 25-14, 25-15 win in the second match.

Kellerman had a match-high 10 kills for Eastern.

• The North Idaho Cardinals defeated Eastern Oregon 14-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-16 in the Spokane Crossover at the HUB. No details were available.
