Eastern men break long streak in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Freshman Parker Kelly scored all 11 of his points in the second half to help send Eastern Washington to a 74-68 victory over Northern Arizona on Thursday night as the Eagles won a men’s basketball game in Flagstaff for the first time in eight years.

Besides Kelly’s 11 points, Collin Chiverton scored 13, Cliff Colimon 12 and Cliff Ederaine 11. Ederaine added 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Eagles (11-12 overall, 5-5 Big Sky).

EWU climbed into fifth place with Portland State’s loss to conference leader Weber State. The top six teams at the end of the regular season advance to the conference tourney.

Northern Arizona (5-18, 1-10) led 32-29 at halftime. and went up by nine with 17:52 remaining in the game.

But the Eagles rallied to take their first lead of the half with 8:43 left on a 3-pointer by Jeffrey Forbes.

Down the stretch, Kelly, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Gonzaga Prep, made a basket with 4:06 remaining to put the Eagles up by seven, then made a 3-pointer at 1:18 to enable EWU to maintain a six-point advantage.

Kelly hit all four of his free throws in the final 51 seconds to seal the victory.
