If you’ve ever been in a department store on a weekend, you’ve probably seen it in action. Recently engaged couples, armed with their combo scanner/calculator device, attacking the aisles. They hold up wine glasses and stemware, putting them through the motions, to see if they’re fit for everyday use at home. Plates are set on placemats and accented with cloth napkins, to make sure the look is cohesive. And every item get rotated as if there was zero gravity so the couple can find the damn bar code to scan, punch in the desired quantity and it to their registry. Couples will still need to touch, hold and compare items to find the ones they love, but home retailer Crate and Barrel is hoping to make the actual registry process a bit easier with the recent launch of its Wedding & Gift Registry App. Crate and Barrel, which hosts exclusive Wedding Party registry events for engaged couples, is letting couples do it all on their own terms with the new app. From an iPhone or iPad, a couple can create and edit their registry, scan barcodes in stores to add items, search for new and popular registry items and find store locations and hours. The Wedding & Gift Registry app is free in the App Store.
