Swapped The Dallas Mavericks announced Friday that they’ve waived journeyman center Eddy Curry and replaced him on the 15-man roster with newly signed free-agent center Troy Murphy. The team didn’t reveal any of the terms agreed to by Murphy. In two NBA games, Curry averaged 4.5 points and two rebounds.

Sidelined The Detroit Lions announced that Jahvid Best would stay on the physically-unable-to- perform list for the year. Best hasn’t played in more than a year because of concussion problems and medical experts have recommended Best not return to the field this NFL season.

Approved The World Anti-Doping Agency accepted the decision that stripped Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles, saying it was the “right and proper sanction” for the disgraced cyclist.

Injured New Orleans Saints running back and return specialist Darren Sproles has undergone hand surgery and won’t be able to play in Monday night’s NFL game against Philadelphia. The Saints did not reveal which hand was injured.

Sidelined Denver Broncos cornerback Tracy Porter didn’t travel with the NFL team to Cincinnati and will miss his third straight game as doctors continue to regulate his medication to control seizures. Porter wasn’t on the field Friday, a day after being cleared to practice.

Diagnosed Texas Tech basketball forward Shauntal Nobles is out indefinitely because of a nerve disorder. Nobles has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, in which the immune system attacks the nervous system in the body’s extremities.

Suspended Baltimore Orioles second baseman Ryan Adams has been suspended for the first 25 games of the next MLB season after testing positive for a banned amphetamine.

Fined Bears DB Chris Conte has been fined $21,000 by the NFL for striking a defenseless receiver in the head and neck area. Fined $15,750 were Raiders DT Richard Seymour, Giants DE Chris Canty, Jets LB Marcus Dowtin and Titans rookie DT Mike Martin.
