Pac-12 tabs Bucannon

Cougars safety joined on first team by Huskies’ Sankey

WSU safety Deone Bucannon, left, who jousts with Oregon receiver Will Murphy here, was named first-team All-Pac-12.

Safety Deone Bucannon of Washington State has been named first-team All-Pac-12 in football, the conference announced on Monday.

Joining Bucannon, a senior, on the first team is Washington junior running back Bishop Sankey, who played his high school ball at Gonzaga Prep.

Bucannon, who led the Cougars with 109 tackles and tied for the team lead with five interceptions, is the only WSU player to be named either first- or second-team all-conference, and the first Cougar to receive first-team all-conference honors since Brandon Gibson in 2007.

Earning honorable mention honors for the Cougars were senior kicker Andrew Furney, senior cornerback Damante Horton, freshman wide receiver River Cracraft and senior offensive lineman Elliott Bosch (Ferris).

Arizona State’s Todd Graham was named Coach of the Year after leading the Sun Devils to a 10-2 record and a spot in the Pac-12 championship game in his second season.

ASU senior defensive lineman Will Sutton received the Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year award, while rival Arizona running back Ka’Deem Carey, a junior, was named the Offensive Player of the Year.

UCLA’s Myles Jack, out of Bellevue, Wash., was named the Freshman of the Year on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Jack began the year as a linebacker, but started taking reps at running back because of injuries at the position.

Jack is second on the team with seven rushing touchdowns, and leads the Bruins with 11 passes defensed.
