Gonzaga Prep knocks out Mead
Gonzaga Prep benefited from 17 walks and beat Mead 8-4 in a 4A subregional elimination baseball game Saturday in Richland.
The Bullpups built a 7-0 lead through three innings and held off a late Panthers rally.
Gonzaga Prep earned the second seed to the regional tournament, while Mead was eliminated.
Mead beat Walla Walla 11-4 earlier in a loser-out game to advance to play Gonzaga Prep. Matt Nelson hit a three-run home run and Darian Barlow added a solo shot to help the Panthers advance.
Richland earned the top seed to regionals with a 7-0 win over the Bullpups earlier in the day.
District 7 2A
Cody Clarkston shut down West Valley through six innings and Clarkston claimed the top seed to the regional tournament with a 4-1 win over the Eagles in the title game at West Valley.
West Valley earned the second seed to regionals with a 7-1 over Colville later in the day.
Colville, which eliminated Pullman earlier, is done for the season.
District 6/7 1A
Medical Lake scored five runs in the first inning and held off a late Cashmere rally to beat the Bulldogs 8-7 in the title game in Medical Lake.
The Cardinals claimed the top seed to the regional tournament and Cashmere is No. 2.
The loss was Cashmere’s second in two years. Their other loss came against Davis, a 4A school.
Medical Lake beat Brewster 6-0 earlier on Saturday. Adam Paulson allowed just three hits in a complete-game effort.
District 9 2B
DeSales claimed the top seed to the subregional tournament with a win over Asotin.
The Panthers went on to play Tri-Cities and beat the Jaguars to earn the second and final seed to subregionals.
District 9 1B
Taylor Lindquist drove in five runs and pitched the complete game in Liberty Christian’s 11-4 win over Colton.
Idaho 5A play-in
Lake City was eliminated after falling 7-5 to Rocky Mountain in Lewiston.
Idaho 4A Region I
Hunter Redinger’s RBI single in the ninth gave Moscow an 8-7 win over Lakeland in Moscow.
The Bears clinched a state berth, while the Hawks were eliminated.
Idaho 3A District 1
Timberlake erupted with seven runs in the sixth inning and beat Priest River 12-5 in the title game at Spirit Lake.
Wyatt Howard hit a two-run home run in the sixth to start the Tigers’ rally.
With the win, Timberlake earned the top seed to the state playoffs.
R.C. Akre led Priest River with two hits and two RBIs.
Priest River went on to claim the district’s other state berth with a 14-1 rout of Bonners Ferry. Jesse Griffin drove in three runs to lead the Spartans.
