Honored The National Basketball Coaches Association honored Bernie Bickerstaff with its Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award on Thursday. “Chuck Daly was an inspiration to everyone that loves NBA basketball,” Bickerstaff said in a statement. “To be a part of his legacy is one of their greatest honors of my career.” Bickerstaff, an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers, began his NBA career at age 29 as an assistant with Washington and helped the Bullets win the 1978 title.

Agreed The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year contract with former Carolina Panthers quarterback Jimmy Clausen. Clausen appeared in 13 games for Carolina from 2010 to 2013 after starring at Notre Dame. He made 10 starts as a rookie and threw for 1,558 yards with three touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Acquired The New York Islanders acquired the negotiating rights to potential free agent defenseman Dan Boyle from the San Jose Sharks for a conditional pick in next year’s draft. The 37-year-old Boyle can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The Sharks will receive a fifth-round pick from New York, but that will bump up to a fourth-round selection if Boyle signs with the Islanders before next season.

Announced Oregon State teammates Michael Conforto and Ben Wetzler are among five finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, given to college baseball’s top player. Other finalists announced are pitcher Aaron Nola of LSU, catcher Max Pentecost of Kennesaw State and pitcher-first baseman A.J. Reed of Kentucky.

• Defending World Cup champion Spain will travel to Brazil as the No. 1 team in the FIFA rankings, and the host nation will kick off as No. 3. Spain and Germany remain 1-2 in FIFA’s monthly standings, while Brazil leapfrogs No. 4 Portugal. Argentina and Switzerland both climb two places to Nos. 5 and 6. Colombia drops three to No. 8.

Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain is set to go with England to the World Cup even if he doesn’t recover from a knee injury in time for the group stage, coach Roy Hodgson said. The midfielder suffered ligament damage in his right knee in England’s penultimate warmup against Ecuador on Wednesday following a challenge by Carlos Gruezo.

Out Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo will miss today’s friendly against Mexico as he tries to recover from leg injuries in time for the team’s World Cup opener against Germany on June 16. Ronaldo is recovering from tendinitis and a muscle injury, both in his left leg.
