Announced Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith has undergone surgery to remove “loose bodies” from his right ankle but is expected back for the start of the Seattle Seahawks’ training camp in July. Seattle coach Pete Carroll updated Smith’s status Tuesday following the first organized team activity of the Seahawks’ offseason program. Questions about Smith first surfaced when the Seahawks were honored at the White House last week for winning the Super Bowl and Smith was seen in a walking boot. Smith had nine tackles, an interception return for a touchdown and a forced fumble in Seattle’s 43-8 win over Denver in the Super Bowl.

Fined The NBA fined Indiana Pacers forward Paul George $25,000 for his public criticism of the officiating in the Eastern Conference finals Game 4 loss to Miami. George made his comments in the postgame news conference following the 102-90 loss to the Heat on Monday night. Miami was 30 of 34 from the foul line in the game. Indiana was 11 of 17.

Signed The Baltimore Ravens have signed first-round draft choice C.J. Mosley, an All-America linebacker from Alabama, to a four-year deal. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Mosley was selected 17th overall by the Ravens after winning the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker. He won two national championships with the Crimson Tide.

• The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed head coach Todd Richards to a two-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season. The 47-year-old Richards, formerly head coach of the Minnesota Wild, has led Columbus to an 85-70-16 record, including a franchise-best mark of 43-32-7 in 2013-14. The Jackets qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the second time and posted the first postseason wins in club history in a first-round loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Hired Sweden premier women’s soccer coach Tony Gustavsson has been hired as a full-time assistant to U.S. women’s head coach Jill Ellis. Gustavsson, 40, was on fellow Swede Pia Sundhage’s staff for the 2012 Olympics, helping the United States win the gold medal. He returns to U.S. Soccer after a successful stint as head coach of Tyresv FF in Sweden’s premier league. Tyresv won the league title in 2012 under Gustavsson.

Died Golf executive Dick Grimm, who helped grow the sport in Canada, has died. He was 91. Grimm played a key role in building Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario, and retaining Jack Nicklaus as the course architect.
