Casey McGehee, Chris Young win comeback player awards

 (Associated Press)

Seattle pitcher Chris Young and Miami third baseman Casey McGehee have been selected as baseball’s comeback players of the year. Young, a 35-year-old right-hander, won the A.L. award after being limited to nine starts in 2013 – all in the minor leagues – because of injuries. He was 12-9 with a 3.65 ERA in 29 starts and one relief appearance this year, reaching double digits in wins for the first time since 2006. Young recently won the same honor from The Sporting News and Players Choice. McGehee, 32, hit .287 with 29 doubles, four home runs and 76 RBIs to win the N.L. honor following a season in Japan’s Pacific League. The awards, announced Friday, were voted on by the 30 beat writers from MLB.com, who each selected one candidate in each league. – AP
