Unbeaten Harvard clinches Ivy title
Conner Hempel threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Fischer with 55 seconds to play and the Harvard Crimson (10-0, 7-0) escaped with a 31-24 victory over the Yale Bulldogs (8-2, 5-2) to capture the Ivy League title outright after blowing a 17-point, fourth-quarter lead on Saturday in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Harvard won “The Game” for the eighth straight year over its longtime rivals, the first time either school has won eight consecutive games in the series since the 1880s.
Louisville 31, Notre Dame 28: Freshman QB Reggie Bonnafon ran for a pair of TDs and threw a 21-yard scoring pass to lead the Cardinals (8-3) over the Fighting Irish (7-4) in South Bend, Indiana. Kyle Brindza missed a 32-yard field goal with 51 seconds left that would have pulled Nortre Dame even.
Lafayette 27, Lehigh 7: Ross Scheuerman ran for a school-record 304 yards and scored three TDs at Yankee Stadium in New York, leading the Leopards (5-6, 3-3 Patriot League) past the Mountain Hawks (3-8, 2-4) in the 150th edition of the most-played rivalry in college football.
Maryland 23, Michigan 16: Wes Brown’s 1-yard TD run with 5:59 left carried the Terrapins (7-4, 4-3 Big Ten) past the Wolverines (5-6, 3-4) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Wolverines must beat Ohio State next weekend to become bowl eligible.
BYU 64, Savannah State 0: Christian Stewart threw four TD passes and ran for two scores – all in the first half – and the Cougars (7-4) crushed the FCS Tigers (0-12) in Provo, Utah.
Wake Forest 6, Virginia Tech 3 (2OT): Mike Weaver kicked a 39-yard field goal in the second overtime and the host Demon Deacons (3-8, 1-6 ACC) beat the Hokies (5-6, 2-5) for the first time since 1984.
It was the first scoreless Bowl Subdivision game at the end of regulation play since 2005.
Army 42, Fordham 31: Larry Dixon ran for 158 yards and three TDs and the Black Knights (4-7) defeated the FCS Rams (10-2) in West Point, New York.
Boise State 63, Wyoming 14: Grant Hedrick passed for 246 yards and three TDs and Jay Ajayi rushed for 110 yards and two scores to propel the Broncos (9-2, 6-1 Mountain West) past the Cowboys (4-7, 2-5) in Laramie, Wyoming.
