Eastern Washington women go cold, drop 79-72 decision at Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas – A late drought proved costly to the Eastern Washington women’s basketball team in a 79-72 nonconference loss at Abilene Christian (3-1) on Monday night.

The Eagles held a two-point advantage, 70-68, with 5:29 left but failed to make a field goal the rest of the way in seeing their record evened at 2-2.

“We just went cold down the stretch,” said coach Wendy Schuller. “I thought we got good looks, including a great look on a 3-pointer out of a timeout that went everywhere but in. They did a good job of attacking us late and converting their free throws.”

Senior Lexie Nelson led all scorers with 20 points and sophomore Haley Hodgins had 19 that included three 3-pointers.

Freshman  Delaney Hodgins added a season-high 15 points and senior  Melissa Williams had 12 points.

EWU opens a three-game home stand Sunday against Central Washington at 4:35 p.m.
