Police arrest armed coffee stand robbery suspect
After a struggle, Spokane police arrested a man suspected of robbing two coffee stands Wednesday evening.
Joseph G.W. Layman, 28, is suspected of robbing the Bare Beans Espresso and Walnut Street Perk last Friday and Saturday. He was armed with a gun during the Bare Beans robbery, a release said.
When officers entered an apartment to arrest Layman, he had a knife in his pocket and fought violently, attempting to retrieve the knife.
Officers also found a hunting knife, hammer and syringes on the bed near Layman.
He was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
