Girls roundup: Ceci Bergquist’s last-second effort lifts St. George’s past LRS

Ceci Bergquist made a free throw with one-tenth of a second left and St. George’s defeated Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 40-39 in a Northeast 2B game Saturday night at St. George’s.

LRS’ Tessa Jantz tied the game with a pair of free throws with 7 seconds left, but Bergquist drove the length of the floor on the ensuing possession and was fouled with one-tenth of a second remaning.

Hailey Higashi led the Dragons (12-8, 8-6) with 18 points and five steals and Bergquist added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Jantz had a team-high 14 points and Jenna Bennett added 13 for the LRS (14-5, 9-5), which lost despite a 42-21 rebounding advantage.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague beat St. George’s 52-37 in the teams’ first meeting on Dec. 20.

Colfax 64, Tekoa-Rosalia 36: Amara Huber scored 17 points and Andra Hamilton, Kori Goodwin and Carmen Gfeller all added nine apiece as the Bulldogs (17-3, 14-0) dumped the visiting Timberwolves (7-11, 3-11). Tekoa-Rosalia’s Olivia Pakootas and Hannah Beach scored eight points each.

Reardan 51, Wilbur-Creston 30: Maddie Johnson made 12 of 13 free throws and scored 21 points to power the Indians (13-6, 9-5) past the Wildcats (7-12, 4-10) in Wilbur. Kamille Langford added 11 points for Reardan. Emily Starzman and Lauren Leyva scored 13 points apiece for Wilbur-Creston.

Northwest Christian 71, Springdale 23: Rachel Bozlee hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points to guide the Crusaders (19-1, 14-1) to an easy win over the host Chargers (6-14, 1-14). Mackenzi and Courtney Gray added a combined 26 points for NWC, which led by 35 at the half. Springdale’s Emily Sulgrove scored a team-high nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Davenport 47, Kettle Falls 27: Meika Heath made 7 of 11 shots and finished with 20 points and eight steals as the Gorillas (12-8, 9-6) routed the visiting Bulldogs (8-12, 4-11). Madison Abbott added 18 points and eight boards for Davenport. Kettle Falls’ Erin Johnson totaled a team-high nine points.

Great Northern

Clarkston 50, Pullman 48: The Bantams (7-11, 5-6) surged in the final quarter and stunned the Greyhounds (9-9, 5-5) in Pullman. Down by seven after three quarters, Clarkston outscored Pullman 24-15 in the fourth to steal the win.

Sequoia Swan led three Bantams in double figures with 14 points. Emily Drake tallied a game-high 23 points for Pullman, which lost the rebounding battle 43-24.

West Valley 58, Cheney 48: Erin Higbie made 5 of 10 shots, including 9 of 10 free throws, and scored 17 points to guide the Eagles (8-10, 6-4) past the visiting Blackhawks (5-14, 0-11). Rachel McGlothlen added 16 points and eight rebounds for West Valley, which led by 17 before letting up a little in the final quarter. Cheney’s Kendyl Cone and Brette Draper combined for 19 points.

Northeast 1B North

Curlew 47, Cusick 42: Kayleona Fanning scored 17 points and Lindsay Gibson added 13 as the Cougars (10-8, 6-4) overcame an early seven-point deficit and beat the visiting Panthers (5-9, 4-5). Cusick’s Rachel Wynne scored 10 points.

Republic 52, Northport 21: Sierra McQuay and Shania Graham scored 11 points apiece as the Tigers (17-0, 9-0) routed the visiting Mustangs (3-12, 1-6). Northport’s Clara Sanchez tallied a team-high nine points.

Selkirk 36, Inchelium 23: Hannah Rick scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the Rangers (6-10, 3-5) shook off a sluggish start and beat the host Hornets (6-7, 5-5). Selkirk secured 40 rebounds, including 17 on the offensive end, and came away with 24 steals.

Northeast 1B South

Wellpinit 55, Valley Christian 39: Kyra Antone scored 10 of her game-high 25 points during the Redskins’ 18-7 third-quarter run and Wellpinit (12-6, 7-1) topped the host Panthers (2-15, 1-7). Antone made 9 of 18 shots from the field and 7 of 10 free throws. Kailee Hayek totaled a team-high 10 points for Valley Christian, which committed 20 turnovers.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 71, Columbia 13: Reinnee Rockett scored 26 points and Brenna Oliver added 15 as the Warriors (14-3, 10-1) overwhelmed the Lions (0-15, 0-11) in Hunters. Shaylee Rice and Bessie Hill combined to score all 13 of Columbia’s points.

Southeast 1B

Touchet 52, Oakesdale 33: Cierra Jo McKeown poured in a game-high 32 points as the Indians grabbed control early and eased past the host Nighthawks (11-6, 8-4). Lindsey Lindgren and Logan Reed scored eight points apiece for Oakesdale, which fell behind 22-6 in the first quarter.

Colton 89, Pomeroy 65: Meghan Devorak scored 16 of her game-high 25 points in the second half and the Wildcats (18-0, 11-0) dumped the visiting Pirates. Savannah Chadwick added 19 points and Zoe Moser chipped in 18 points and 12 assists for Colton. Esther Schuh and Skylar Smith scored 19 points apiece for Pomeroy.

Liberty Christian 45, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 19: Karlee Souve scored 22 points and Bella Loera added 16 as the Patriots overwhelmed the Tigercats in Washtucna. Jazzmyn Gordon tallied a team-high seven points for LWK.
