GU ties UW; WSU loses

Aliya Miller had a goal and an assist and Gonzaga finished in a 2-2 draw with No. 25 Washington (7-1-1) in a women’s soccer match in Spokane on Sunday.

The Bulldogs (1-4-4) led 2-0 on second-half goals by Miller and Karley Baggerly but the Huskies’ Kimberly Keever scored twice within 35 seconds to tie the match at 71:36.

The tie ended the Huskies’ seven-game winning streak and gave the GU program its third tie with a nationally-ranked opponent in 73 matches.

Christie Tombari made 11 saves for Gonzaga.

• Washington State (7-1-0) lost for the first time, falling 2-0 to Portland (3-6-0) in Portland.

DeNae Vandam and Jenna Morris scored within a span of 2:25 in the second half and Whitworth (4-3, 2-1 Northwest) took a 2-0 victory over Pacific (1-6, 1-2) in Spokane.

• Idaho (4-4-1) drew 0-0 with Seattle (5-2-1) in Moscow, Idaho. UI goalie Amanda Poertner had seven saves.

Men’s soccer

Ryland Berriman and Karl Muelheims scored first-half goals and Whitworth (6-0, 2-0 Northwest) took a 2-0 win over Linfield (5-3, 1-1) in Spokane.

Volleyball

Cassandra Mendoza led four Whitworth (8-3, 2-0 Northwest) players in double-figure kills with 16 and the Pirates pulled out a 26-28, 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 15-10 victory over Puget Sound (4-6, 1-1) in Tacoma on Saturday night. Maddye Dinsmore had 58 assists and 32 digs.

• CC Spokane went 1-2 on the final day of the Everett Crossover. The Sasquatch defeated Umpqua 3-0 before losing to Shoreline 3-1 and Columbia Basin 2-0.

Men’s golf

Whitworth finished 36 holes at 6-over par to take second place, 10 strokes back of Willamette at the Pacific Fall Invite played at Quail Valley in Banks, Oregon. Whitworth’s Jamie Carroll took second at 2 under.
