Soda fountain stamps pay homage to a bygone era

This year, the U.S. Postal Service will be issuing stamps featuring soda fountain favorites.

Look for a banana split, egg cream, double-scoop ice cream cone, root beer float and hot fudge sundae by New York artist Nancy Stahl. The booklet of 20 stamps – specific release date to be determined –  includes four of each design.

Until the 1960s, soda fountains were popular gathering places for people in the United States. These Forever stamps, always equal in value to the current first-class mail 1-ounce price, pay homage to a bygone era and its fizzy or frozen treats.

“Feast on these stamps without gaining an ounce!” the press release said, adding, “Another big plus – they’ve got plenty of fiber.”
