Community Cooking Nights - Every Wednesday night in January from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the Kitchen at Second Harvest will be hosting free Community Cooking Nights. Each class will cover scratch cooking skills, and applying those skills to simple, healthy, and cost-effective meals. All recipes are based on what is readily available through Spokane County food banks. All are welcome, no experience is necessary. Third Annual Lantern Tap House Winter Beerfest - More than 30 winter beers from all over the Northwest. Music lineup includes Thursday: Andy Rumsey; Friday: DJ Lydell; Saturday: Marshall McLean Band. Martin Luther King Human Rights Community Breakfast - Presented by the Latah County Human Rights Task Force with assistance from the University of Idaho and the city of Moscow Human Rights Commission. The event will include a breakfast of potato-egg casserole, fruit, bagels, muffins and salsa; entertainment; a keynote speaker; and awards. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items which will be donated to local food banks. All proceeds will benefit human rights projects for county schools and the local community. Beer Brewing 101 - Square Wheel Brewing Co. and Catered for You offer instruction in extract beer making plus sample fine food. The first class on Saturday, 10 a.m., features John Mielke, brew master for Square Wheel Brewing Co., who will talk about the process of making a true American Amber ale. Appetizers and beverages provided. The second class on Feb. 6 features Catered for You executive chef Romeo Herrera discussing pairing beer and food, followed by a multi-course brew-centric meal, including dessert. Bridgeport Brewers Dinner - Chef David has created another great meal this time featuring beers from Oregon’s first craft brewery, Bridgeport Brewing. The four-course meal will feature Bridgeport IPA with Cajun Boudin, Stumptown CandyPeel IPA with fresh California calamari salad, Ebenezer Winter Warmer with beef shoulder tender steak and vegetables and Old Knucklehead Barley Wine Ale with chocolate chip brownie and ice cream.
