Area roundup: Harper leads WSU women at UW Indoor meet
Washington State’s Liz Harper won the women’s high jump to lead the Cougar women at the University of Washington Indoor track and field meet Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility in Seattle.
Harper cleared 5 feet, 8 3/4 inches. WSU’s Kianna Davis took second with the same mark.
Terrance Chambers, C.J. Allen and Thane Pierson all secured fourth-place finishes to lead the Cougar men. Chambers finished the 200-meter dash in 22.14 seconds, Allen clocked 8.16 in the 60-meter hurdles and Pierson cleared 6-10 3/4 in the high jump.
The Gonzaga men’s 3,200-meter relay team took second place in 7:44.69, breaking the previous school record by 7 seconds.
GU’s Troy Fraley was second in the 3,000-meters in a school-record time of 8:04.37. Maggie Jones led the Bulldog women with a first-place finish in the mile (5:14.33) and second-place finish in the 3,000 (10:11.65).
Washington State sent one competitor, Dino Dodig, to the Ed Jacoby Invitational in Boise. He won the heptathlon by racking up 5,464 points.
Vandal Invitational
The Idaho men had the top three spots in the 60-meter hurdles and 400-meter run at the Vandal Invitational in Moscow, Idaho.
The Vandals’ Drew Thompson won the 60-meter hurdles and Ben Ayesu-Attah won the 400.
Idaho’s Tim Delcourt won the men’s mile and Santos Vargas and Drew Shultz were third and fourth, respectively.
Event champions for the Idaho women included Kaleala Bass (400), Marquita Palmer (800), Victoria Goetz (200), Reed Richardson (triple jump), Lauren Cooper (weight throw) and Cecilia Watkins (pole vault).
Washington State had two event champions – Brock Eager in the men’s weight throw and McKenna Hogan in the women’s long jump.
Wrestling
Great Falls edged North Idaho 26-20 in Great Falls, Montana. Weight-class champions for the Cardinals included Deondre Wilson (141 pounds), Jaren Sumauang (149), Dajour Reece (165), Alex Aguilar (174) and Damian Trujillo (285).
