Prep softball: Selah ends Cheney’s season

Maddy Zerr hit a two-run home run in the first inning to help send Selah to the 2A state tournament with a 9-2 victory over Cheney in the conclusion of a weather-delayed glue-in game Monday in Ephrata.

Cheney ends its season.

The first three innings were played in Cheney on Saturday with the Vikings opening a 6-2 lead before the game was suspended due to weather.

The Blackhawks scored both their runs in the third. Rachel Barsness singled and scored on Maddie Kallsen’s single. Meghan Krantz added a triple to score Kallsen.

Zerr, who added an RBI-single in the fourth for Selah after play resumed, also pitched a complete-game eight-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Districrts 7/9 2B Regional: They’ll decide the final two berths to state and seeding during the completion of the weather-suspended tournament at the Dwight Merkel Complex Tuesday starting at 11 a.m.

Northwest Christian plays Colfax and Springdale faces Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in winner-to-state, loser-out games that began Saturday at Franklin Park. In the semifinals, Kettle Falls plays DeSales and Asotin meets Dayton. Those four have qualified for state. State seeding games will follow.
