Washington State QB commit Cammon Cooper dials up 10 touchdowns in prep game
Made for the Air Raid? It sure seems like Cammon Cooper is.
Friday night in a high school game at Sandy, Utah, the Washington State quarterback commit astonishingly threw for 599 yards and 10 touchdowns, lifting fifth-ranked Lehi over second-ranked Alta in double overtime.
It was an offensive exhibition from the first quarter of regulation to the second period of overtime, with the Pioneers winning 72-66.
Cooper, a 6-foot-4, 202-pound senior, finished 49-of-71 passing and broke a Utah state record for single-game touchdowns. The previous record was eight. His 71 pass attempts record rank second in state history and only 11 other players have thrown for more than 500 yards in a game.
“I don’t even,” Cooper told the Deseret News after the game. “It’s indescribable. It feels great to get the win.”
Cooper pledged to Mike Leach and the Cougars on May 28. A four-star prospect according to Scout.com, he listed offers from two other Pac-12 schools, Arizona and Oregon State, and a number of other Power Five programs such as Ole Miss, Louisville, Tennessee, Kansas, Indiana, Georgia, Iowa State and Missouri.
With Luke Falk’s departure, he should be one of seven quarterbacks on the WSU roster next season. Tyler Hilinski is most likely to take over starting duties, but Cooper should at least provide a strong push.
