Area girls: Christine Denny scores 23 points and Liberty handles Asotin

Christine Denny scored 23 points with seven rebounds and six assists to lead Liberty (18-2, 14-2) past Asotin (7-12, 5-11) 65-39 on Monday in the Northeast 2B League season finale for both teams.

The game was a makeup from Friday’s snowstorm across the region.

Liberty, ranked seventh in state 2B in the latest WIAA RPI ratings, earned the No. 1 seed from the Northeast 2B South Division and will play Thursday against the winner of North No. 5 seed Kettle Falls and South No. 6 Northwest Christian.

The NE2B District tournament is held at West Valley. All opening round games are on Tuesday and second-round games on Thursday. Liberty, Colfax, Davenport and St. George’s all earned first-round byes and await their opponents for Thursday.

Madelynne Flaig had 17 points with eight rebounds and Maisie Burnham added 13 points. Liberty held a 43-27 rebound advantage.

The Lancers used an 18-6 second quarter to open things up, fueled by nine points from Denny and Flaig’s six in the quarter.

Kylan Hernandez led Asotin with 15 points.

St. George’s 65, Springdale 26: Lydia Bergquist scored 21 points and the visiting Dragons (18-2, 15-1) routed the Chargers (1-19, 0-16).

Hailey Higashi scored 16 points for St. George’s, which is ranked fourth in state 2B and top seed in the North Division.

The Dragons face the winner of South No. 5 Reardan and North No. 6 Springdale.

Nichole Beckman led Springdale with 12 points.

Colfax 52, Reardan 24: Carmen Gfeller scored 19 points with 10 rebounds and the Bulldogs (15-5, 14-2) handled the visiting Indians (7-13, 4-12).

Taylor Garcia had 10 points with six steals and Piper Cai added eight points with seven steals for Colfax, which is ranked eighth in state 2B.

Colfax is the South No. 2 seed and will face the winner of North No. 3 Wilbur-Creston and South No. 4 Asotin.

Reardan is the South No. 5 seed and faces North No. 6 Springdale.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 63, Tekoa-Rosalia 41: Tessa Jantz scored 18 points with 12 rebounds and the Broncos (12-8, 10-6) topped the visiting Timberwolves (5-14, 3-13).

Lacey Miller and Peyton Curtis scored 15 points apiece for LRS, while Kallie Harder had seven points and 10 rebounds. Felicia Zeimer registered eight steals to go with three points.

Hannah Beach led Tekoa-Rosalia with 21 points and Tatiana Mendoza added 11 points.

LRS earned the third seed from the South Division and will face North No. 4 Northwest Christian.

Tekoa-Rosalia finished with the South No. 6 seed and plays North No. 5 Kettle Falls.

Wilbur-Creston 48, Northwest Christian 35: Jessi Reed scored 20 points, Karlee Maioho added 18 points with 12 rebounds and the visiting Wildcats (11-9, 9-7) downed the Crusaders (10-10, 7-9).

Wilbur-Creston is the North Division third seed for the District playoffs and will face South No.4 Asotin, while NWC is the North four-seed and plays South No. 3 LRS.

Steffanie Kiourkas scored 12 points and Quinn Dhaenens had 11 rebounds for NWC.
