Game officials: 28 pronghorns poached in eastern Idaho

MONTEVIEW, Idaho – Game officials say they’re trying to figure out who slaughtered 28 pronghorn antelope in eastern Idaho.

The animals were left to waste in fields near Monteview, a small community about 50 miles northwest of Idaho Falls. The Idaho State Journal reports that Idaho Fish and Game authorities believe the killings occurred on multiple nights during a two-week stretch sometime during the last week of January through the beginning of February.

Because some of the poached animals were found close to roads, officials say it’s likely the pronghorns were shot from a vehicle or vehicles.

In a press release Friday, Regional Conservation Officer Doug Petersen called it the most offensive case of poaching he’s seen in his career.

The Citizens Against Poaching Board has issued a reward of $2,000 for information about the case.
