Dog dies in Spokane Valley house fire

A dog died in a Spokane Valley house fire late Friday night, but the two people inside were able to escape without injury.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department was called to 11910 E. 20th Avenue at 11:15 p.m. Friday. The first crew to arrive found heavy fire on the home’s south side, according to a fire department news release. The residents had already evacuated.

The damage to the home is extensive and is estimated to be more than $100,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A crew from Spokane County Fire District 8 also responded to help put out the fire.
