Two dogs die in Spokane Valley house fire despite efforts from neighbors, fire crews

Two dogs died in a mobile home fire Wednesday evening despite the efforts of neighbors and crews from the Spokane Valley Fire Department.

Crews were called to 7404 E. Cataldo Ave. shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday. The first engine to arrive found the front room of the mobile home on fire with smoke pouting out the front windows and door, according to a fire department news release. Neighbors were attempting to put the fire out with garden hoses.

Several residents arrived while firefighters were battling the fire and had to be physically restrained as they repeatedly tried to run inside the burning home to save their pets, the department said.

The two dogs were found inside the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
