Prep track and field: Postseason meets begin Thursday

Idaho high school track and field athletes will decide state berths in two-day meets beginning Thursday and concluding Saturday.

The 5A Region I and 4A Region I meets begin Thursday at Coeur d’Alene at 2 p.m. and conclude in Lewiston on Friday at 3.

The 3A District I meet is Thursday and Friday at Timberlake.

The top three individuals and winning relay qualify for state in 5A. The top two individuals and winning relay qualify for state in 4A. The top three individuals and top two relays qualify for state in 3A.

The 2A District I-II and 1A District I-II meets are Friday and Saturday at Kootenai High in Harrison. Action begins at 2 p.m. on Friday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The top two individuals and winning relay qualify for state in 2A and the top five individuals and top two relays qualify for state in 1A.

Also, there are some at-large berths available in each classification.

The 5A and 4A state meets are May 19-20 at Dona Larsen Park in Boise. The 3A, 2A and 1A state meets are the same dates at Middleton High School.

Changes for GSL

The District 8 4A boys and girls meets will be Thursday and Saturday at Spokane Falls Community College.

The 4A athletes will have a day off on Friday to allow the 3A subregional between GSL athletes and the Mid-Columbia Conference to begin a two-day meet at SFCC on Friday at 5 p.m. and conclude Saturday along with the 4A meet at 11 a.m.

The top nine individuals and relays in 4A move on to the subregional against MCC athletes May 19-20 at Richland. From there, the top two individuals and relays advance to state, May 25-27 at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma.

The 3A teams have a different path to state. They will send the top two individual and relays on to a bi-district meet against District 2 teams, May 19-20 at the Southwest Athletic Complex near Boeing Field in Seattle.

From there, the top seven individual and relays earn state berths.

  • The District 7 2A meet is Friday at Cheney, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The top two individuals and relays move on to a regional meet with the Central Washington Athletic Conference, also at Cheney, May 19. The top four individuals and relays earn state berths.
  • The 1A, 2B and 1B athletes have their state-qualifying meets next week.
