Prep softball roundup: Meghan Krantz homers twice and Cheney softball eliminates Clarkston

Meghan Krantz crushed two home runs and Cheney (15-5) eliminated visiting Clarkston (1-10) 11-1 in the first round of the District 7 2A playoffs on Saturday.

Madison Kallsen scattered five hits and allowed only a single run.

Cheney advances to face Pullman on Monday in a loser-out game. The winner faces regular season champ West Valley on Wednesday for the district title, with both teams qualifying for crossover games against Central Washington Athletic Conference teams on May 20.

Pullman 10, East Valley 6: Desi Tennant pitched a complete game and the visiting Greyhounds (7-12) eliminated the Knights (8-11) a first round game.

District 7 1A

Deer Park 13, Chewelah 11: Jaylee Lane hit a walk-off two-run homer in the eighth inning and the Stags (15-7) topped the Cougars (16-5) in the District 7 1A title game at Lakeside HS.

Both teams advance to the state tournament.

Deer Park built a 9-1 lead through two innings before the Cougars rallied to force extras.

Payton Erickson had four hits for Deer Park, including a pair of doubles while Courtney Butler and Oliveah Erickson had three hits apiece.

Jamie Eide paced Chewelah with three hits.

Deer Park 6, Colville 5: Oliveah Erickson tallied three doubles and the Stags defeated the Indians in an earlier semifinal game.

Courtney Butler added three hits for Deer Park. Gracie Schauls clubbed two home runs for the Colville.

Chewelah 2, Lakeside 0: Maddie Koler hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning for the game’s only runs as the Cougars beat the Eagles 2-0 in an earlier semifinal game.

Jaelynn Skok made Koler’s shot stand up as she tossed a shutout and limited the Eagles to just three hits.

Lakeside 4, Colville 0: Ashley Fuson hit a three-run home run and the Eagles (17-4) defeated visiting Colville (15-6) 4-0 to secure the No. 3 seed to a crossover game on Saturday.

Shelby Klaassen scattered four hits and tallied nine strike outs in a shutout. Meghan Isayev went 2 for 2 with two doubles.

Lakeside advances to host Omak while Colville travels to play Cascade in loser-out games on May 20.

1B Regionals

Colton 11, Inchelium 9: Kendyl Druffel drove in four runs and the Wildcats (20-2) defeated the visiting Hornets (16-5) in a 1B regional semifinal game. at Waterfront Park in Medical Lake.

Colton advances to face Almira/Coulee-Hartline on Saturday for the distinct title.

Emma Schultheis and Emily Schultheis combined to scatter 11 hits and allow five earned runs.

Inchelium plays in a loser-out game on Friday.

Colton 5, Curlew 0: Emma Schultheis scattered three hits and struck out seven in a complete game shutout in an earlier first round game. Kendyl Druffel drove in a pair of runs for the Wildcats.

Inchelium 7, Cusick 6: The Hornets topped the Panthers in an earlier first round game.

Curlew 14, Cusick 13: Korin Baker was 3 for 4 with a lead off home run in the third inning to lead the Cougars (12-10) over the Panthers in an elimination game on Saturday.

Baker also scored four runs with five RBIs. Kayla Engen scored the winning run in the seventh when a bunt was misplayed for an error.

Curlew faces Pomeroy in a loser-out game on Friday.

Idaho

Timberlake 17, Fruitland 7: Shelby Starr homered and went 4 for 5 with five RBIs and Timberlake advanced to the Idaho 3A state tournament with a 17-7 win over visiting Fruitland in a loser-out play-in game on Saturday.

Glory Cheevers hit a home run and drove in five, part of a 16-hit attack for the Tigers. Shelby Salois had five strikeouts in a complete game and hit a walk-off double to initiate the 10-run rule.
