Tacoma (AAA) 8, Fresno 0
TACOMA, Wash. – Daniel Vogelbach hit a two-run home run and had two hits, driving in three, and Tyler Cloyd allowed just three hits over five innings as the Tacoma Rainiers (28-16) beat the Fresno Grizzlies (18-28) 8-0 on Tuesday.
Cloyd (1-0) struck out four to pick up the win.
Tacoma took the lead in the first when Vogelbach hit a two-run home run and D.J. Peterson hit a two-run double.
The Rainiers later added one run in the second and sixth innings and two in the seventh to finish off the shutout.
David Paulino (0-1) went five innings, allowing five runs and seven hits in the Pacific Coast League game. He also struck out three and walked three.
The Grizzlies were blanked for the second time this season, while the Rainiers’ staff recorded their seventh shutout of the year.
Arkansas (AA) 7, Midland 1
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Chuck Taylor hit a run-scoring double in the first inning, leading the Arkansas Travelers (19-25) to a 7-1 win over the Midland RockHounds (24-21) on Tuesday.
The double by Taylor started the scoring in a four-run inning and gave the Travelers a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Tyler Marlette hit an RBI single and Kyle Petty hit a two-run double.
The Travelers later added a run in the second and two in the fifth. In the second, Gianfranco Wawoe hit an RBI single, while Keury De La Cruz and Petty hit RBI singles in the fifth.
Arkansas right-hander Dylan Unsworth (2-4) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on six hits over 7 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Corey Walter (2-1) took the loss in the Texas League game after a rough outing in which he allowed seven runs and 11 hits over six innings.
Yairo Munoz had a pair of hits for the RockHounds.
Modesto (High-A) 7, Rancho Cucamonga 5
MODESTO, Calif. – Logan Taylor doubled twice, driving home three runs as the Modesto Nuts defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-5 on Tuesday.
Joe DeCarlo tripled and doubled for Modesto.
Kody Kerski struck DJ Peters out with runners on first and third to end the game for his first save of the season.
Modesto went up 5-1 in the second after Taylor hit an RBI double, bringing home Donnie Walton.
After Modesto added two runs in the sixth, the Quakes cut into the deficit with four runs in the ninth inning, including a wild pitch and a single that scored Luke Raley and Omar Estevez.
Modesto right-hander Nick Neidert (5-0) picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits over five innings. Opposing starter Dean Kremer (1-3) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed five runs and eight hits over four innings.
Raley doubled and singled, also stealing a base for the Quakes.
Clinton (Low-A) 7, Cedar Rapids 1
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Rayder Ascanio homered and doubled twice, scoring three runs while driving in two as the Clinton LumberKings (17-25) defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels (26-19) 7-1 on Tuesday.
Bryson Brigman tripled, doubled and singled with two RBIs for Clinton.
Up 1-0 in the third, Clinton extended its lead when Brigman hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Joe Rizzo.
The LumberKings later added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Ascanio hit an RBI double and then scored on a triple by Brigman, while Gareth Morgan hit a two-run double in the fifth.
Clinton southpaw Danny Garcia (3-4) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on six hits over six innings. Opposing starter Domenick Carlini (2-3) took the loss in the Midwest League game after a rough outing in which he allowed seven runs and 11 hits over five innings.
Jaylin Davis homered and singled for the Kernels.
