Eastern Washington women’s soccer continues unbeaten run at home
The Eastern Washington women’s soccer team defeated Montana 1-0 on Sunday in its last regular season home game.
The Eagles remain undefeated in Big Sky play at 6-0-1, 12-4-1 overall.
The Eagles’ seven-match unbeaten streak at home is the longest in program history and their nine-game overall unbeaten streak is second in program history.
Seventeen seconds into the game, senior Delaney Romero took a shot on goal for Eastern and the ball eventually deflected off a Montana player for the game’s only goal.
Portland State 2, Idaho 1: Maxine Nagramada and Katie Forsee both notched goals as the Vikings (8-7, 5-2) edged the Vandals (5-9-2, 1-5-1) in Moscow.
Megan Goo scored for Idaho to briefly tie the game in the 62nd minute, but Forsee scored the game-winner one minute later.
Pepperdine 4, Gonzaga 0: Bri Visalli tallied a hat trick as the league-leading Waves (10-2-2-, 4-0) routed the Bulldogs (10-4-1, 2-3-0) in Malibu, California.
Brie Welch also scored for Pepperdine, which is unbeaten in eight matches and hasn’t allowed a goal in conference play.
Pepperdine’s defense forced its ninth shutout of the season. The Waves have not allowed a goal in the last 524 minutes.
Whitworth 5, Lewis & Clark 1: Leah Corra’s team-leading sixth goal of the season got the Pirates (9-4-1, 8-1-1 NWC) started en route to the victory over the Pioneers (3-9-2, 2-7-1) in Portland.
Men’s soccer
San Diego 2, Gonzaga 1: Miguel Berry struck the winner in the 97th minute, and the Toreros (7-3-2, 2-0-1 WCC) rallied to defeat Gonzaga in San Diego.
The Zags (6-6-1, 0-3-0) held a 1-0 lead into the 69th minute thanks to a goal from Matt Kintzle in the 18th minute.
Whitworth 2, Willamette 1: Kyle Cacoyannis took in a pass from Jonah Snyder and fired home a match-winning, 82nd minute goal to give the Pirates (7-6-1, 5-3-1 NWC) the win over the Bearcats (7-4-2, 6-1-2) in Salem, Oregon.
California 2, Washington 1: The Golden Bears (9-3-0, 4-1-0 Pac-12) scored the go-ahead goal off a free kick in the 77th minute as the visiting Huskies (9-4-1, 2-2-1) dropped their second straight match.
Both teams looked solid on defense throughout the contest, with just 21 total shots being recorded. However, it was California which was able to get two past the Washington defense to pick up three points in the standings.
Volleyball
Taylor Mims recorded career highs in kills and digs but Washington State (13-7, 2-6 Pac-12) fell in five sets to Oregon State (13-7, 3-5) in Pullman. Set scores were 25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 14-25 and 15-12.
Mims, a junior outside hitter from Billings, Montana, led the match with her career-high 25 kills and also recorded a career-best 18 digs along with a season-high eight blocks and one ace. Casey Schoenlein had nine kills while Claire Martin and Ella Lajos added eight kills each with Martin tallying four blocks and Lajos three blocks. Jocelyn Urias had six kills with seven blocks. Libero Alexis Dirige led the match with 28 digs. Penny Tusa had 32 assists and Olivia Coale served two aces.
