Dry Fly does it again

The Spokane distillery is among the top vodka-makers in the country, according to a recent readers’ poll from USA Today.

Dry Fly competed in the USA Today 10best Readers’ Choice Awards after being selected by a panel of American spirits experts. They nominated 20 craft distilleries from around the country in the best vodka category.

Dry Fly fans had until noon Sept. 11 to cast their votes. There was a limit of one vote per person per day for a month. The 10 winners were announced mid-September. Most work in small batches using locally-sourced ingredients.

Dry Fly came in No. 6. It was the only Pacific Northwest distillery to make the list. The top two slots went to distillers in Kansas City, Missouri: Tom’s Town and Restless Spirits. For a complete list, visit www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-craft-vodka-distillery-2017/.

Last year, Dry Fly took second place in the poll. Dry Fly is at 1003 E. Trent Ave. Call (509) 489-2112. On the web: dryflydistilling.com.

Tasting room remodel

Barrister Winery is remodeling its tasting room.

The project involves building a new office area, adding storage space and moving and adding onto the restrooms. The new women’s restroom will house three stalls instead of one. Barrister is also adding a new stereo system. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

“It’s just going to have a more finished look,” said owner Greg Lipsker.

Barrister is at 1213 W. Railroad Ave. Call (509) 465-3591. On the web: barristerwinery.com.
