Reader Response: Missed a few sweet spots
A recent story on the top 12 best bakeries in and around Spokane didn’t hit the sweet spot with everyone.
Here, a few readers weigh in on their favorite places to go for baked goods in the Inland Northwest.
Sheri Zapf recommends The Mason Jar in Cheney. “It has good coffee and food, nice decor and outside area,” she said. 101 F. St. (509) 359-8052. www.facebook.com/themasonjar101.
Sheryl and Tommy Piskel are fans of Twenty-Seventh Heaven, a newer bake shop on Spokane’s South Hill. Owner and baker Lydia Cowles has “a signature coffee cake that is delicious and very good-not-too-sweet cupcakes. Plus, my husband says (she has) the best fresh baked bread around – and he has tried a lot.” Kathy Lang agrees, adding that coffee cake is “to die for!” Cathy Nemert is a fan of that coffee cake, too, as well as “wonderful cupcakes, great ingredients and a relaxed atmosphere.” 1120 S. Grand Blvd. (509) 279-9872. www.facebook.com/TwentySeventhHeaven.
Elizabeth Waters favors Sweet Frostings. “It’s the best in Spokane by far for sweet treats,” she wrote on Facebook with three exclamation points. Marianne Bornhoft also “highly” recommends to shop. Her favorite is the bumblebee cake: “yellow fluffy moist cake topped with rich chocolate frosting … Divine!” Sweet Frostings has three locations. Find them online at www.sweetfrostingsbakeshop.com/.
Charleen Neal prefers Rita Marie’s Cafe. “Best scones and sugar cookies in town … not to mention cinnamon and caramel rolls. All of which are baked on site.” 605 E. Holland Ave., Suite. 116. (509) 466-3402. www.ritamariescafe.com.
