Area roundup: No. 6 Washington volleyball tops No. 13 UCLA

Courtney Schwann had 13 kills with 13 digs and visiting No. 6 Washington (13-1, 3-0) downed No. 13 UCLA (8-4, 1-2) in four sets (18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-15) in Pac-12 play in Los Angeles on Friday.

Carly Dehoog added 12 kills and Bailey Tanner dished out 41 assists for the Huskies.

Whitworth 3, Lewis & Clark 0: Emiko Kahler had 14 kills, Gracie Meiners added 43 assists and visiting Whitworth (7-6, 4-1) blanked Lewis & Clark (1-11, 0-5) in three sets (25-22, 25-14, 25-20) in Northwest Conference action in Portland.

CC Spokane 3, Big Bend 0: Calista Clark had 13 kills, Kendall Collins added 35 assists and CC Spokane (20-4, 3-1) handled visiting Big Bend (0-17, 0-5) in three sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-14) at SCC in a Northwest Athletic Conference game.

North Idaho 3, Walla Walla 0: Kayla Neumann had 12 kills, Haylee Templeton added 40 assists and North Idaho (15-5, 5-0) beat visiting Walla Walla (17-13, 2-3) in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) in NWAC play.

Women’s soccer

Gonzaga 2, Pacific 1: Sophia Viviano scored two goals and Gonzaga (9-1-1, 1-0-0) edged Pacific (3-7-2, 0-1-0) 2-1 in a West Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Viviano’ second of the game in the 67th minute made it 2-0, but Sigrid Aas scored on a penalty kick 3 minutes later to halve the deficit.

Idaho 3, Southern Utah 1: MaKenzie Lawrence scored twice and Southern Utah (2-9-0, 1-2-0) beat visiting Idaho (4-6-2, 0-2-1) 3-1 in Big Sky play in Cedar City, Utah.

Myah Merino scored on a header for Idaho in the 88th minute.

North Idaho 11, Blue Mountain 0: Katey Knaack scored a hat trick and North Idaho (15-5, 5-0) routed Blue Mountain (6-11, 1-4) 11-0 in an NWAC game in Pendleton, Oregon, in a game rescheduled due to poor air quality. Zoe Lee added a pair of goals for the Cardinals.

Men’s soccer

CC Spokane 7, Treasure Valley 0: Ian Schimandle registered a hat trick and CC Spokane (6-2-1, 3-1-0) took care of Treasure Valley (2-6-0, 2-3-0) 7-0 in Northwest Athletic Conference action. 315pm

Cross country

Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational: Chandler Teigen was Washington State’s top finisher in 19th place with a time of 24-minutes, 10.1 seconds in the men’s 5K Blue race at the Notre Dame Golf Course in Notre Dame, Indiana.

WSU, ranked No. 11 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, placed 11th of 21 teams in the flight.

Vallery Korir was WSU’s top finisher in the women’s 5K Blue race in 15th at 16:46.4. Washington State placed 14th of 20 teams.

Bill Dellinger Invitational: Troy Fraley was Gonzaga’s top finisher in 18th overall at 24:03.2 seconds at the Bill Dellinger Invitational at Springfield Golf Course in Springfield, Oregon.

Dwain Stucker was Idaho’s top finisher in 46th at 24:27.2.

In a series of dual meets, Gonzaga finished 3-4 with wins over Cal Poly, Idaho and UC Santa Barbara while Idaho was 1-6, topping UCSB.

In the women’s race, Idaho’s Andrea Condie was the top area finisher in 26th at 19:52.3, while Jordan Thurston paced Gonzaga in 39th place at 20:11.0.

Gonzaga finished 0-9 in the dual meets, while Idaho went 2-7, beating Gonzaga and UCSB.

Montana Invitational: Eastern Washington’s Colton Johnson finished first overall at 25:33.37 in the Montana Invitational at University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula.

On the women’s side, senior Kari Hamilton placed third at 18:16.46 and Kaili Keefe took fifth at 18:23.99.

Eastern men defeated both Montana and Montana State in dual matches. EWU women defeated Montana but fell to Montana State.
