Long-distance hiking workshop upcoming
Learn about long-distance hiking at the fourth annual Inland Northwest Ruck on March 3.
The event will start at 8 a.m. at the Hayden Lake Eagles Club (1520 W. Wyoming Ave.).
“Ruck is a term used for a gathering of hikers – in this case it is a workshop on long distance hiking,” said Bob Turner, the coordinator of the Inland NW Ruck via email.
Topics will include discussion of specific trails, safety, trail etiquette, funding a hike, pack alignment, ultra-light gear and supplies.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their backpack and gear for one-on-one pack reviews with the goal of creating a lighter pack.
The eight-hour workshop costs $20 for American Long Distance Hiking Association - West members and $35 for nonmembers. Food and beer will be provided.
