Man critically injured when hit by car on Division Street

A man was critically injured after he attempted to cross a section of Division Street where is illegal for pedestrians to traverse, Spokane police reported.

The man was hit at Division and Kiernan Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday by a vehicle in the center northbound lane, according to a Spokane police news release. The man was walking eastbound.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was cooperative and neither speed nor intoxication appear to be factors. Northbound Division was closed from Gordon Avenue to Empire Avenue for several hours and reopened at about 10:15 p.m.

In August, a woman also was hospitalized while attempting to cross Division about seven blocks north of where this man was hit. She was in a marked but unsigned crosswalk.

Division remains one of the most dangerous streets in Spokane for pedestrians to cross.
