Area roundup: Alphonso Anderson’s 28 powers North Idaho

Alphonso Anderson had 28 points with 12 rebounds and visiting North Idaho (11-2, 1-0) cruised past Big Bend (10-1, 0-1) 101-65 on Wednesday in a Northwest Athletic Conference opener.

James Carlson scored 17 points off the bench for the Cardinals and RayQuan Evans added 13. NIC shot almost 53 percent from the floor, compared to 37 percent for Big Bend.

Koby Huerta led the Vikings with 20 points.

CC Spokane 80, Walla Walla 72: Asher Cox came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points and the Sasquatch (10-4, 1-0) defeated the visiting Warriors (6-8, 0-1).

Garrett White added 17 points and Isaiah Gotell had a double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, for CCS. The Sasquatch shot 45 percent from the field, but only 18 percent from behind the arc. They attempted 27 shots from the free throw line, burying 20 of them.

Damen Thacker led Walla Walla with 17 points.

Women’s basketball

Jessica Cheney scored 18 points and visiting Walla Walla (11-3, 1-0) topped CC Spokane (11-2, 0-1) 74-67 in a NWAC opener.

Four Warriors finished in double figures.

Alexia Novelli led all Sasquatch players with 21 points on 10-of-21 shooting. Katlyn Ostrowski had 18 points with four 3-pointers. No other CCS player scored more than eight. CCS was outrebounded 34-22.

Big Bend 78, North Idaho 62: Miranda Johnson scored 17 points and the Vikings (11-2, 1-0) beat the visiting Cardinals (10-2. 0-1).

All Big Bend starters scored more than 10 points.

Heidi Sellman led NIC with 18 points. Anna Schrade came off the bench to score 10 points, making both 3-point attempts. NIC was outrebounded 41-28.
