Remains of Idaho woman missing since April 2018 discovered in Snake River

The remains of a woman from Grangeville, Idaho, missing since April 2018 were found Sunday in the Snake River near Buffalo Eddy in Idaho County.

The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday that 25-year-old Shawnta Pankey went missing under “suspicious circumstances.” She was last seen near the Pine Bar Recreation Site along the Salmon River.

The sheriff’s office announced at the time that it was seeking information about a man and a dog in a green pickup with Utah plates and a camper that was at Pine Bar the weekend of April 14 and 15, around the time Pankey went missing.

The Idaho County Coroner confirmed Thursday the remains were of Pankey.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jerry Johnson at (208) 983-1100.
