Chalk Art Walk contest: ‘Lost in Space’ in Hillyard

HILLYARD – The annual Chalk Art Walk contest is on Saturday with registration from 9 to 10 a.m. on the corner of Market Street and Queen Avenue. This year’s theme is “Lost in Space.” Artists are divided into groups by age and assigned a square of sidewalk on which to draw.

Gardening: Pick hydrangeas suited to Inland Northwest climates

On the west side of the Cascades, hydrangeas grow to the size of small trees and in a couple of weeks they will be covered with huge blue flowers that will last well into late summer. While gardeners in the Inland Northwest will never be able to compete with our coastal counterparts, we certainly can grow our fair share of hydrangeas – if we manage them carefully and pick the right varieties.
