Front Porch: Finding a new swimsuit fast is no easy task

I left the suit in the hotel garbage can and thought no more about it until I got an email last week confirming our travel plans. Our 30th wedding anniversary is approaching and we’re spending it in Hawaii, which means I need a new bathing suit ASAP.

The League of Women Voters in Spokane is putting on a forum March 22 to examine issues involving the local judicial system. The forum at the Gonzaga University Law School’s Moot Courtroom starts at 6 p.m., but participants will gather for socializing at 5:30 p.m.

Museum features first territorial governor

The Spokane Valley Heritage Museum just opened a new exhibit about Isaac Stevens, the first governor of the Washington Territory. Stevens’ resume includes serving as a U.S. congressman and a brigadier general in the Union Army during the Civil War. He served as territorial governor from 1853-1857.

The Verve: Arts in the classroom critical at East Farms STEAM school

Last Friday, dozens of children and their families attended an art show called “A is for Art” in the Seehorn Building of the Steam Plant. The exhibition included more than 400 works of art created by elementary students from East Farms STEAM Magnet School in the East Valley School District. Along with a handful of volunteers, teacher and resident artist Sami Perry hung the work in one day, anticipating an excited crowd. They weren’t disappointed.

Christilaw: State tournament brings golden moments

There are few things in the high school experience more memorable that winning a state championship. The big gold ball takes up a great deal of space in the school’s trophy case, there’s the commemorative photos and the simple fact that, as long as they play whichever sport you’re talking about is played in the state, the fact that your school won the title in that particular year will never be forgotten.
