The Slice Worse Than Motion Sickness?

Clark Fork’s Sandy Hoskins knows her 8-year-old granddaughter, Cassie Mae, is a true blue Idahoan.

The latest evidence came when the little girl’s grandfather was taking her for a ride and he proposed crossing into nearby Montana just for the heck of it.

Better not, said Cassie Mae. “I get state sick when I leave Idaho.”

Overheard at a seventh-grade girls basketball game (one of the coaches calling out instructions): “Guard your man and stay close to her!” - submitted by Jim Falkner

Slice answers: Rita Peterson said it’s obvious what a credit card that could be used only in the Inland Northwest should be called. “The IN Card.”

Don Bates said it should be called “The Conservative City Card,” and he even offered a slogan. “Don’t leave home without it - or better still, just don’t leave home.”

Others included “Evergreen Card” and “The Inland Empire Strikes Back - With Interest.”

The way to deal with people who never stop talking about themselves: A Spokane reader who wants to remain anonymous recommended a tactic he has used. What you do is wait for a pause in the self-absorbed oration and then chime in with “Enough about me, how are YOU doing?”

More businesses that have earned customers for life: Chewelah’s Marilyn Othmer was placing a phone order with Coldwater Creek when she mentioned losing an earring she had acquired in a previous purchase. So the person taking her order sent a free replacement.

Citing a time the store saved her some sturdy boxes for moving, Lisa Cleveland said the South Hill Super One has the friendliest employees in town.

Pat Palmer told about how someone from Escape Coffee came to his business to apologize for them being closed one day during the wicked cold.

And Darrell Ravine became a customer for life at Perfection Tire in the Spokane Valley when the folks there performed a car repair for him and then didn’t charge him.

Slice question: Would you be willing to work somewhere that required you to sign a religious oath as a condition of employment?
