Your week

YOUR HEALTH

Brushing (and flossing) is the best way to protect your teeth and gums – but not if your toothbrush is in bad shape. Some tips from the experts:

• Rinse brushes thoroughly after each use under running tap water to clean off all remaining toothpaste and visible debris.

• Don’t cover up brushes between uses; that encourages bacterial growth. Allow them to air-dry instead, in an upright position.

• Keep them at least 6 feet away from a toilet to avoid contamination with airborne particles after a flush.

• Get a new brush at least once every three or four months, and after each time you’ve been sick, according to the American Dental Association. If bristles look worn or frayed, the brush needs to go. Children may need replacements more often than adults.

YOUR HOME

So you can’t figure out how to use your self-cleaning oven, and you’ve lost the manual?

The website ManageMyLife (www.managemylife.com) has manuals for more than 11 million products, including appliances. Just go to the “manuals” section and type the model number in the search box.

When the name of your product comes up in blue type, click on it and the manual will appear in a PDF version that can be printed in whole or in part, saved to a computer or sent to FedEx Kinko’s for printing.

Most appliance manufacturers also have manuals for their products on their websites, usually in a section called “customer service,” “owner center,” “product support” or something similar.

YOUR FOOD

If your dinner routine is getting weak, maybe it’s time to flex your mussels.

The shellfish pair nicely with spicy chorizo sausage for a hint of tropical flavor to brighten a rainy spring day. For the recipe, see page C5.
