Human remains found near Brooks Road in May identified

The human remains found in south Spokane County near Brooks Road and Thorpe Road in May and June have been identified as Chuan Yang, 28.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner reported that Yang died of a gunshot wound to the head but has not yet ruled whether the death was a homicide or a suicide.

A turkey hunter reported finding a human skull on May 3. A search of the area turned up several arm bones, a portion of a foot and some clothing, according to court documents. In early June a nearby resident reported finding a human jaw bone on his property. A search by a cadaver-sniffing dog turned up a pair of pants with leg bones inside and other bones.

Searchers also found clothing, a backpack, bedding, a .45 caliber handgun and a .45 caliber shell casing near the remains, court documents state.
