Embracing holi-delays

There wasn’t a surrender ceremony. But you know that cultural conflict between commerce and the mostly lip-service yearning to keep ever-expanding holiday “seasons” from scraping away the calendar’s integrity like relentless glaciers?

Recycling with style

For many, spring triggers a paradox within us – while we yearn to purge the clutter that has slowly crept into our closets and taken over our countertops during the dismally dark days of winter, we cannot resist snagging our neighbor’s somehow more useful-looking discard pile in the name of a good bargain.

Goodwill gladly accepts unwanted electronics

We’re not a big television-watching family. I seldom watch, but when I do it’s usually deliberate. I sit down to watch a show I’ve selected. I’m not one for surfing channels or flopping down on the sofa for hours of passive entertainment. Besides the small set in my bedroom, there is another downstairs for family movie-watching but we seldom turn it on.

Goodwill to become electronics recycler

Starting Jan. 1, Washington residents will no longer need to pay a recycler to take old computers and TVs off their hands. Instead, a new state e-waste reduction law that takes effect that day will pay recyclers to handle and transport electronic components to processors, who will break them down for reuse.

A bill that would require girls under 18 to get permission from a parent before having an abortion is expected to be introduced to the Legislature shortly. Rep. Bill Sali, R-Kuna, who's sponsoring the bill with House Majority Leader Lawerence Denney, R-Midvale, asked a House committee for more time to work with legal experts to ensure the bill doesn't meet the same fate as last year's version, which was thrown out by a federal judge.
